New Day Music Studios: Brass: Trombone Studies

Level 1 (½ hour session):

Assembly, holding position, and care of the instrument.
Correct posture while playing.
Daily practice schedule.
Basic note reading, theory, ear training, rhythms, and musical style.
Major scales and developmental exercises.
Basic instrument technique and sound production.
Proper breathing, slide movement, lip buzzing, and use of the tongue in articulation.
Songs from around the world in the classical, folk and contemporary idioms.
Recital performance preparation.
Certificate upon completion.

Level 2 (½ hour session):

Continuation of concepts developed in the beginning sessions with the addition of minor, pentatonic, and blues scales.
Range and speed skills development.
Greater emphasis on musicality.
Certificate upon completion.

Level 3-10 (1 hour session):

Development of advanced technique using indirect procedures.
Development of repertoire used in auditions, competitions, and recitals.
All 12 major and minor scales; introduction to modes.
Help with school band repertoire used in section placement and advancement.
Jazz improvisation is offered as an option.
Certificate upon completion of each segment.

University Levels 100-400 (1 hour session):

Emphasis is on repertoire to be used in juries and recitals for grading and advance placement purposes. Technical and musical aspects are crafted to a high degree of perfection utilizing jury and recital pieces.

Adult 1 hour session:

Development of professional music repertoire in classical, popular, and jazz idioms for expansion and maintenance of musical and technical skills used in community, church, and professional venues.
